Avery Bates, Lakeland Rustlers, Women's Volleyball

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
The postseason edition of Avery Bates is just as dominant as her regular-season self.
The fourth-year right-side powered the Lakeland Rustlers to their third straight ACAC Women's Volleyball Conference Championship over the weekend. Fresh off being named ACAC North Player of the Year, Bates made an immediate impact, delivering 20 kills at a staggering 68% efficiency in Lakeland’s quarterfinal win over the SAIT Trojans on Thursday.
In a highly anticipated semifinal matchup against the RDP Queens, she continued her stellar play with 18 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs, and an ace, helping the Rustlers secure a 3-1 victory.
Facing the host Augustana Vikings in the final, Lakeland had to stay composed in a high-energy atmosphere. Bates stepped up once again, recording 10 kills, 3 aces, and 5 digs as the defending champs swept the Vikings to claim the title.
Her dominant performance throughout the tournament earned her MVP honors.
A native of Acme, AB, Bates is in her fourth year with the Rustlers while pursuing a Bachelor of Education.
