Red Deer Polytechnic Queens capture home decision over Olds College Broncos

Red Deer, AB – On the strength of a four goal second half, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens shutout the Olds College Broncos 5-0.

After some pressure, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens were rewarded in the 33rd minute. Red Deer's Corbynn Fujimoto fired from long range and her strike eluded Broncos goalkeeper Maeve Vant'klooster in the lower part of the net.

Sylvan Lake's Grace Smith earned the assist.

Six minutes into the second half, the RDP Queens extended their lead to 2-0. Jenica Swartz, a Bachelor of Science Pre-Med student, connected with Paige Kalbfleisch in front of Olds College's goal and the first-year midfielder beat Vant'klooster in the left corner.

Then in the 68th minute, Jenica Swartz made a move out front of Vant'Klooster and found room in the lower right corner for a three goal cushion. Paige Kalbfleisch, a Bachelor of Science Nursing student, had the assist.

Grace Smith added a fourth goal for the Queens in the 81st minute. The first-year Bachelor of Commerce student struck a shot off the cross bar and in. Captain Alisha Coules recorded the assist.

Four minutes later Jenica Swartz tacked on another Queens goal. Grace Smith had the assist.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens wrapped up a 5-0 decision.

Red Deer Polytechnic Queens goalkeeper Danyelle Bouvier stopped all five shots. Vant'klooster turned aside 20 RDP shots.

Jenica Swartz was named the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game. Naomi Rowe received the award for the Broncos, displaying a strong work ethic.

On Friday, October 1, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (1-1-0) will host the Ambrose University Lions (0-2-0) at 3 pm.

The Olds College Broncos (2-2-0) will travel to Medicine Hat and take on the Rattlers (1-1-0) on Saturday, October 2 at 1 pm.
