Running Room Grand Prix Series Race #3 Recap

The third Grand Prix of the 2024 ACAC cross-country schedule took place in Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, September 21.

The runners lucked out with nice sunny weather with a cool breeze throughout both races. The course at Nicholas Sheran Park was made up of a 2-kilometre loop made up of all grass and a few hills.

The races consisted of competitors from across the conference with seven schools including The Kings University Eagles, Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks, Medicine Hat College Rattlers, SAIT Polytechnic Trojans, Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens, St. Mary's University Lightning, and the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings.

The women started the competition at 1 p.m. Maddie Scirmger from Medicine Hat College crossed the finish line first with a time of 25:52, claiming the ACAC Grand Prix #3 win.

  3. Kerigan Frampton (SAIT) – 26:36

 

In the team category, made up of each team's top four female runners, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens finished first overall with 29 points. The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks finished right behind in second with 33 points and Medicine Hat College Rattlers came in third with 56 points.

 

The men followed with their race at 2 p.m. SAIT's top two runners Maximus Thiessen and Moktar Said led the pack trading first and second positions throughout the race. In the end, Thiessen edged out Said to finish first overall in the ACAC Grand Prix #3.

In the team category, made up of each team's top four male runners, the SAIT Polytechnic Trojans finished first overall with 18 points. The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks finished in second with 39 points and Red Deer Polytechnic Kings came in third with 47 points.

The next ACAC Grand Prix event will occur this Saturday, Sept. 28 in Calgary hosted by St. Mary's University. This race will be an opportunity for runners to get a first look and feel of the ACAC championship course that will run on October 26.
