RDP Queens get by Broncos in final regular season game, earn first
Red Deer, AB – With a home victory Friday evening against the Broncos, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens have sealed a spot in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Championship final.
The home team received a pair of points from captain Camryn Wallan and downed the Olds College Broncos 2-1 Friday evening at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
After a scoreless opening period, the Queens struck on the power play about midway through the middle fame. Defender Alesha Santos beat Broncos netminder Cienna Kinghorn. Wallan and Brynn Pollard had the assists.
Two minutes into the third period, Wallan gave the home team a two goal cushion. Brynn Pollard recorded her second assist. Madison Sansom also had a helper.
With 8:24 left in the period, Broncos Player of the Game Keera Tiringer was the lone member of Olds College who was able to beat Queens netminder Izzy Palumbo.
Alesha Santos was named the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game
Palumbo stopped 22 shots. Kinghorn made 24 saves.
The Queens went one-for-six on the power play. The Broncos couldn't convert on six opportunities.
The first place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (11-2-2) will receive trip to the best-of-five ACAC final. The NAIT Ooks and Olds College Broncos will play a best-of-three semi-final series.
