WBB| Trojans Eliminate Kodiaks in Nail Biting Finish to Advance in Playoff Race.

Kodiaks looked to run SAIT Trojans out of Val Matteotti in quarterfinal matchup.

 

The Kodiaks came out of the gate ready to play, taking no time to get down to business. The Kodiaks were able to gain a strong lead giving them some breathing room as the Trojans looked for a way to get in front. Kodiaks Matlin Jacobs and Courtney Deemter lead the charge for Lethbridge, picking up 4 points each but fell just short of the Trojans closing out the first frame of play 17-16 for SAIT.

 

The Trojans and Kodiaks continued to go back and forth with each other trying to maintain a lead. The Kodiaks were able to get back out in front of SAIT late in the 2nd quarter. Kodiaks Matlin Jacobs continued to dominate offensively picking up 8 points in the quarter and 12 in the first half which was enough to keep Lethbridge in front to end the half leading 33-31.

 

The Trojans were unstoppable picking up 11 points within the first couple minutes of the 2nd half giving them an early lead on the Kodiaks. Trojans #11 Anegor Wol was the player to watch in the 3rd quarter as she contributed 6 points to keep SAIT ahead. The Kodiaks tried to do everything they could to get back in the game but fell short headed into the final quarter by a score of 52-46.

 

It was do-or-die time for the Kodiaks being down headed into the 4th and final quarter. The Kodiaks struggled to gain traction and the Trojans took advantage of that increasing their lead, causing the Kodiaks to have to work even harder to get back into the game. The Kodiaks tried to make a game-deciding push late in the quarter. The Trojans stood their ground and held off the Kodiaks in a very intense finish and were able to secure the game 65-60.
