Megan Hebert Honoured as 2019-20 ACAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year

Medicine Hat, AB (March 4, 2020) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Megan Hebert of the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings has been selected as the 2019-20 ACAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year sponsored by Vereburn Medical Supplies

Megan started 6 games as a rookie and has had some of her best games statistically, against some of the top ACAC North teams. She routinely is asked to guard the opposing team's toughest perimeter players. Her season-high of 19pts to go along with 8 steals and 7 rebounds was against the #1 Keyano Huskies, and an individual season-high of 8 assists was recorded versus #2 Lakeland Rustlers.

Megan epitomizes the term student-athlete, holding herself accountable in the classroom and on the court. "She is tenacious, hard-working, extremely coachable and is willing to sacrifice and do whatever it takes to have team success," Head Coach, John Dedrick says of the first-year player. "I've placed a lot of responsibility on her shoulders, game in and game out, and I could not be more proud of how she has responded. Megan is a leader by example, and represents what our Vikings program hopes to emulate on the court on a nightly basis."

Hebert is from Wetaskiwin, AB and is in her first year with the Vikings, playing primarily as a guard. She is enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts program, majoring in Physical Education and one day hopes to become a high school teacher. Prior to arriving at Augustana, Hebert's high school athletic achievements are notable and have elevated her well into collegiate competition. This prestigious award was presented to Hebert at the 2020 ACAC Women's Basketball Championship Ceremony held on March 4 at Medicine Hat College.
