Lions Caught Sleeping By Rattlers

Sometimes bye weeks for teams can be a blessing or a curse. For the Ambrose Lions, there wasn't much to feel blessed about.

After an extended break, the home gym Lions came out flat and disorganized while the Medicine Hat Rattlers simply just played their game and took away a 88-65 win at the Lions Den.

Both teams had their struggles with turnovers and poor shot selection, but the Lions never had a sustained plan and couldn't really improvise offensively.

Medicine Hat's Kendall Kuntz had another typically strong performance, pocketing 25 points with six assists as the Rattlers scored the first nine points and never trailed. The Lions occasionally cut the deficit from double to single digits, but the third quarter breakout for the Rattlers finished the game off.

The lone bright spot for Ambrose was Paige Goertzen, who shot 7 for 11 from the field and finished with 17 points. Ambrose coach Gerard Brand grew frustrated early in the match and made frequent substitutions, especially of his key starters. As the Lions go through their fourth season of basketball existence in the ACAC, they have never defeated the Rattlers.

Medicine Hat, who are ranked 8th in the CCAA National voting, improved to 6-1 and took over first place in the ACAC in winning percentage, Ambrose's record dropped to 2-5 as thy head to Red Deer Saturday to face the Queens
