
SAIT Trojans use speed to down Kings at RDC
Red Deer, AB – The SAIT Trojans used their speed and shut down several of the RDC Kings' offensive breaks, eventually recording a 4-2 win at RDC Main Field.
SAIT applied some early pressure and it produced results in the 6th minute. Regina's Sak Daffala connected with a speedy Armando Garcia, who found the corner behind Kings goalkeeper Jacob Hamilton. Twenty minutes later the RDC Kings responded. Third-year defender Kyle Bett used a well placed free kick to help even the contest 1-1. The Kinesiology student found Kaidri Bornyi at the far side of the net, and the first-year midfielder quickly released the ball past the Trojans goalkeeper Marko Ilich.
Before the end of the half, SAIT took the advantage. In the 33rd minute Martin Bertolesi raced up the centre of the Kings' zone and the Business Administration student found space on the right side to push the Trojans ahead 2-1.
Early in the second half, SAIT captured a two goal lead. After receiving the ball in front of Hamilton, Calgary's Martin Bertolesi spun and found the back of the net in the 48th minute. Nine minutes later, Bachelor of Business Administration student, Armando Garcia, put the Trojans ahead 4-1 with a strike to the right.
Groenewegen substituted midfielder Damian Marah into the game and the move quickly paid off. Nathan Swartz found the third-year entering the Trojans' zone with quickness, and Marah made no mistake, pulling the Kings within two goals in the 72nd minute. Both goaltenders were solid the remainder of the game and the Trojans picked up a 4-2 decision.
Lacombe's Nathan Swartz was named the Kings Player-of-the-Game. Edmonton's Armando Garcia was recognized for the Trojans.
Next, the Kings (2-1-1) will play the Ambrose University Lions (0-3-0) in Calgary on Saturday, September 21 at 2:00 p.m. At the same time, the first place SAIT Trojans (3-0-0) will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (2-0-1).
