2023 ACAC Men's Hockey Rookie of the Year

Rookie of the Year presented by CCM Hockey: Dylan Schives

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Dylan Schives of the SAIT Trojans Men's Hockey team has been selected as the 2022-23 ACAC Men’s Hockey Rookie of the Year. 

The first-year blueliner from Tilbury, Alta., was a force on the offensive and defensive side of the puck for the Trojans, recording 18 points (3 goals, 15 assists) in 24 games while logging more than 27 minutes a night. He becomes the first SAIT non-goalie to win Rookie of the Year since Mike Hofstrand was picked in the 1998-99 season. Goalies Payton Lee and Mike Tadjdeh won the award in 2018 and 2013, respectively.

“We knew coming in that Dylan was going to be a special player, but he surpassed our expectations this season,” said Tyler Drader, head coach of the Trojans. “He played in every situation for us and competed hard while doing so. Once he got off the ice, he went right back on. And offensively, he was one of the most creative players – forward or defense – in the league, often making something out of nothing to score or set up a goal for us. Him winning this award is very much well-deserved.”

Schives is a first-year Business Administration student at SAIT.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2023 ACAC Men’s Hockey Championship Final in Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, March 17, 2023.
