2023 ACAC Men's Basketball Rookies of the Year

North Rookie of the Year presented by Alberta Basketball: Ephraim Humilde

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Ephraim Humilde of the NAIT Ooks has been selected as the 2022-2023 ACAC Men's Basketball North Rookie of the Year. 

This season, Ephraim Humilde has been a massive asset to the NAIT Ooks Men's Basketball team. He played in all 20 regular season games for the team, starting six of them. Humilde has 182 points with an average of 9.1 points per game. He is sixth in the ACAC for three-point percentage, averaging 41.4 percent. 

"Ephraim has made an immediate impact in his first year with the team, scoring in double-figures in 10 games this season. Known league-wide for his shooting ability, Ephraim has also made great improvements on the defensive end of the court. His ability to play a variety of positions is a credit to his intelligence, versatility, and willingness to always put the team first. His ACAC North Rookie of the Year selection is well-deserved and only the beginning of what is sure to be an impressive post-secondary career," said Head Coach Jordan Baker. 

Humilde is a first-year student-athlete from Edmonton, Alberta, in the Bachelor of Business Administration program. As a teenager, Humilde was named to the All-Canadian 2nd Team at the U15 Championships, where he was representing Alberta. He was also Harry Ainlay High Schools Athlete of the Year in 2021.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2023 ACAC Men’s Basketball Championship hosted by Ambrose in Calgary, Alberta.

 

 

South Rookie of the Year presented by Alberta Basketball: Ethan Robinson

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Ethan Robinson of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers has been selected as the 2022-2023 ACAC South Male Basketball Rookie of the Year. 

As a freshman in his first year in Canada, Ethan, joined the Rattlers and instantly made an impact scoring 29 points in his first ever ACAC regular season game while putting up a highlight of the year candidate against the defending ACAC champions, the SAIT Trojans. He started every game of the season and his dynamic play helped lead the Rattlers to an 8-2 record in the first semester of action. Despite playing the second semester with an injury that limited his offensive production, Ethan still managed to average 13.4 points per game, 4 rebounds a game and 2.7 assists per game. Ethan had seven 20+ point games on the season including 22 points in the Rattlers play-in game.

“Ethan is a phenomenal player and an even better person. He truly represents the Rattlers three pillars of a Rattlers athlete being a student, an athlete and a citizen of the Medicine Hat community” said Rattlers Head Coach Rich Humphrey.  “He is an exciting player who I look forward to coaching for years to come.  Despite having to battle through an injury, Ethan showed his teammates and the league what perseverance is all about” said Humphrey.

Robinson is from Ipswich, Australia and he is currently studying in the Sport Marketing and Management program.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2023 ACAC Men’s Basketball Championship Ceremony held on March 1st, 2023 hosted by Ambrose University in Calgary, AB.
