2023 ACAC Women's Badminton Rookie of the Year | Carmen Wong

Edmonton, AB (February 18, 2023) - The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Carmen Wong of the SAIT Trojans has been selected as the 2023 ACAC Female Badminton Rookie of the Year.

In SAIT’s return to ACAC badminton, Wong has been one of the team’s biggest contributors, earning a second and two third-place mixed doubles finishes in the season’s three tournaments, as well as second and fourth place finish in women’s doubles.

“Coach Austin Liaw has done a remarkable job of putting together a badminton team that has been able to compete in our very first year back, and Carmen has been a major reason for it,” said Trojans Director of Athletics and Recreation, Wade Kolmel. “Carmen has excelled on and off the court and has helped establish a very strong foundation in which our badminton program can build off. We congratulate her on this award.”

Carmen Wong, from Calgary, Alta., is a first-year Optician student at SAIT.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2023 ACAC Badminton Championship hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton.
